  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • For the Crust
  • 2 pie crusts store-bought or homemade
  • 1 egg for egg wash

Equipment

  • 9-inch pie dish
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Rolling pin (if using homemade dough)
  • Knife & cutting board
  • Saucepan (for caramel)
  • Pastry brush

Method

  1. Preheat Oven
  2. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  3. Make the Caramel Sauce
  4. In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir until combined and smooth. Add cream, vanilla, and salt. Simmer for 2 minutes, then set aside to cool slightly.
  5. Prepare the Apple Filling
  6. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with brown sugar, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice.
  7. Assemble the Pie
  8. Roll out one pie crust into your dish. Fill with apple mixture, then drizzle with half of the caramel sauce. Cover with the second crust, crimp the edges, and cut small slits for steam. Brush top with beaten egg.
  9. Bake
  10. Bake for 45–50 minutes until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.
  11. Cool & Serve
  12. Let the pie cool for at least 30 minutes. Drizzle with remaining caramel before serving.

Notes

Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor balance.
Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the perfect pairing.
If the crust browns too quickly, cover the edges with foil halfway through baking.
Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
